Water in the ship to day at 8am at 4pm at midnight At water tight bulkhead 1 inch 1 inch 0 inches At fire room bilge 7 inches 13 inches 7 inches Sounded at noon in 27 fathoms. Muddy bottom. No drift indicated by the lead line. At 3am occasional cracking sound from the ice near the ship. Weather generally overcast and gloomy, with occasional fog, and, toward midnight very light snow. Water sky from N.E. around by S. to S.W. Light variable winds, falling barometer and low temperature. Moon 24° N. New moon

An absolutely uneventful day. At three a.m. an occasional crack could be heard from the ice about the ship, but very faint and of no importance, unless it be a sign of wasting away.
