Sounded at noon in 28 1/2 fathoms, muddy bottom. A drift to the eastward being indicated by the lead 
line.
Weather generally clear and pleasant until evening when it became cloudy and dull. Brisk westerly 
winds all day with rising barometer and low temperature. Snow flying in drifts from the surface of the 
floe. At 3am solar halo 22° in radius. Water sky to east as day ends.
Engineer's force engaged with fittings to wind mill. Carpenters employed in making torpedoes. 
Crew engaged in work generally about the ship.
