Sounded at noon in 28 1/2 fathoms, muddy bottom. No drift indicated by the lead line. 
At 10am the ship was inspected by Commanding Officer, after which divine service was performed in 
the cabin.
Dull and gloomy weather, with almost steady fall of light snow. East wind during forenoon, backing 
suddenly to N.W. and continuing to back until it reaches S.W. x W. by midnight. Steadily rising 
barometer.
