The work of pumping and distilling is done by the Baxter, except for about six hours when, the wind 
being suitable, the pumping is done by the wind mill in connection with the shifted bilge pump in the 
corner of the fire room hatch.

Sounded at noon in 30 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A drift to the north being indicated by the lead line. At 
1am half of the sun's disc was above the horizon.  At 3am an appearance of open water to N. and N.E.
At 10am called "all hands to muster". Read the act for the government of the Navy, mustered the crew, 
and the ship was inspected by the Commanding Officer. 
At 10.30 divine service was read in the cabin.
Weather generally clear and pleasant, except from 4 to 11pm, when it was overcast and foggy. Light 
southerly winds veering to S.W. with falling barometer. Rapidly increasing temperature to 2pm after 
which a slow fall. 
A snow bunting flying about the ice near the ship during the afternoon.
