The work of pumping is done by the Baxter engine in connection with the shifted bilge pump in the 
corner of the fire room hatch, and the Baxter boiler is also used for distilling. 
The repairs and alterations to the wind mill being completed it was mounted in place, ready for 
connection to the brake of the shifted bilge pump whenever wind enough would blow.

Sounded at noon in 31 fathoms, muddy bottom. A drift to north being indicated by the lead line. Sunrise 
at 12.56am. At midnight the upper limb of the sun was still above the horizon much distorted by 
refraction.
A calculation of the work done by the pump, places the amount of the leak at about 300 gallons per 
hour.
A "Kittiwake" flew over the ship, passing from west to east.
Weather remarkably bright, clear and pleasant. Very light southerly and easterly winds, with slightly 
fluctuating barometer and with rapidly rising followed by rapidly falling temperature.
Very light stratus clouds to N.W. at midnight with a water sky between east and south.
