The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 39 fathoms. Muddy bottom. No perceptible drift being indicated by the lead line. Lowered 
and hauled the dredge.
Light easterly and north-easterly airs, with partly cloudy and partly foggy weather alternating. Slowly 
falling barometer and low temperature.
A very high and heavy water sky between N.E. & S.E. 

Water temperatures and specific gravities
Surface temperature = 34° - Specific gravity = 1.003 at 43°
2 fathoms = 31° - Specific gravity = 1.0242 at 42.5°
38 fathoms = 29.5° x - Specific gravity = 1.0264 at 42.5° x Miller-Casella No 24403
