The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 38 fathoms. Muddy bottom. No perceptible drift being indicated by the lead line. Lowered 
and hauled the dredge.
Gloomy disagreeable weather. Light northerly wind with much fog. Fluctuating barometer and 
temperature.

Surface temperature = 34.5° - Specific gravity = 1.002 at 45°
2 fathoms = 31° - Specific gravity = 1.0247 at 45°
37 fathoms = 30.5° x - Specific gravity = 1.0260 at 45° x Miller-Casella No 24403
