Sounded at noon in 24 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A slight drift to N.N.E. being indicated by the lead line. 
Lowered and hauled the dredge.
At 10am the ship was inspected by the Commanding Officer, after which divine service was read in the 
cabin. 
Gloomy and disagreeable weather. Fresh southerly winds veering to westward. Rapidly falling 
barometer, increasing temperature, occasional showers of hail and rain, and light snow. Foggy and rainy 
as day ends.
