The repairs to the wind mill are completed to day, and the work of pumping is done by it after 10am. The 
Baxter boiler is used for distilling.

Sounded at noon in 26 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A westerly drift indicated by the lead line.
During the afternoon a large bear was shot and killed by Mr. Dunbar, Alexey and Aniguin, about 5 miles 
to the northward of the ship, and his head and skin brought in.
Weather clear, bright, warm and pleasant. Moderate E.N.E. wind with slightly varying barometer. At 
midnight a low line of hazy sky to the S.E. and E. indicating an opening of the ice in those directions.
Removed quarter deck awning. Carpenters engaged in making sled runners for boats keels, and 
engineer's force occupied in construction of boiler tube pump.
At midnight a large flock of fowl, probably wild geese, flying from S.E. to N.W. passed within sight of the 
ship.
