Sounded at noon in 30 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A slight southerly drift being indicated by the lead line.
Crew engaged in removing auxiliary steam pump from old galley room to a position in the forward store 
room over the fore hold. Engineer's force engaged in removing steam pipe and suction pipe of said 
pump, and in fitting new crank shaft and new bearings to wind mill.
Some guillemots seen about 3 miles S.E. of the ship, also the track of a fox. The "open water" 3 miles 
S.E. of the ship closing by the coming together of the edges of the floe.
Weather clear and pleasant until 10pm when the sky became overcast. Light northerly and westerly 
winds, slowly rising barometer, and, for the first 9 and the last 5 hours, low temperatures.
