The steam cutter's boiler is also used for distilling. Water in the ship to day at 8am at 4pm at midnight At water tight bulkhead 7 inches 4 inches 7 inches At fire room bilge 2 inches 3 inches 0 inches Sounded at noon in 35 1/2 fathoms, muddy bottom. Drift to N.W. being indicated by the lead line. A snow bunting flying from the east. Stopped near the ship, and being driven by the dogs flew away to the S.W. Crew engaged in cleaning berth deck, and airing clothing and bedding in the bright sunlight. Weather clear, bright and pleasant in the middle of the day, overcast, hazy and occasionally foggy during the remainder. Falls of very light snow at intervals. Light southerly and easterly, backing to east, northerly and easterly winds during forenoon and afternoon, and veering again to S.E. toward midnight. Rising barometer. Mild temperature. Moon 15° 20' S. First quarter
