The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 40 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A slight drift to east being indicated by the lead line. Lowered 
and hauled the dredge.
Generally foggy and misty weather, with a little drizzling rain and snow at 6am. Light northerly airs, 
slightly falling barometer and uniform temperature.

Surface temperature = 35° - Specific gravity = 1.001 at 46°
2 fathoms = 31.5° - Specific gravity = 1.0237 at 46.5°
39 fathoms = 31.5° x - Specific gravity = 1.0261 at 47° x Miller-Casella No 24403
