The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 38 1/2 fathoms. Muddy bottom. No drift being indicated by the lead line. Lowered and hauled 
the dredge.
Weather mild and pleasant (though cloudy) in the forenoon; foggy and misty from 3pm to midnight. Very 
light and variable airs with rising barometer.

Surface temperature = 35.5° - Specific gravity = 1.002 at 42°
2 fathoms = 31.5° - Specific gravity = 1.0244 at 41°
