The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 40 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A drift to S.S.E. being indicated by the lead line. Lowered and 
hauled the dredge.
Weather cloudy and gloomy except for a short time in the afternoon where the sun was visible. Light 
northerly and westerly airs, with rising barometer and uniform temperature.
