The pumping is done by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump, and the distilling is done by the steam 
cutter's boiler.

Sounded in 23 3/4 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A slight drift to north being indicated by the lead line. Lowered 
and hauled the dredge.
Bright and pleasant weather with light variable airs and calms. Steadily falling barometer and high 
temperature.
