The Baxter boiler is used for distilling. Water in the ship to day at 8am at 4pm at midnight At fire room bilge 5 inches 1 inch 4 inches Sounded at noon in 31 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A slight drift to S.W. being indicated by the lead line. Lowered and hauled the dredge. Crew engaged in scraping ships side, red-leading iron work, clearing out boats &c. Carpenters engaged in securing keel-runners to boats keels. Weather generally clear and pleasant until 10pm. Calm until 6am when an easterly air sprung up, followed by rapidly freshening E.S.E. wind. Moon 21° N. New moon
