The steam cutter's boiler is used for distilling. Sounded in 40 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A very rapid drift W. x N. being indicated by the lead line. Strong easterly gale with heavy squalls until after 3pm when the wind rapidly moderated, and the barometer ceased to fall. Snow falling from 9pm to midnight. Moon 1° S. Last quarter
