Using melted ice
Coal consumed during the preceding 24 hours: 110 lbs
Coal remaining on hand at noon: 53 tons 408 lbs

The pumping is done by the wind mill, and, as required, by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 39 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A drift to south being indicated by the lead line. Lowered and 
hauled the dredge.
At 10am called "all hands to muster". Read the act for the government of the Navy and mustered the 
crew. The ship was inspected by the Commanding Officer and divine service was performed in the 
cabin. 
Moderate northerly and westerly breezes with steady barometer and uniform temperature. Snow in the 
early morning and from 3pm to midnight.
