The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 39 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A drift to W.N.W. being indicated by the lead line. Lowered and 
hauled the dredge.
Weather generally cloudy, with snow in the middle of the day. Calms, and after noon, light northerly 
breezes. Slightly rising barometer and low temperature.
