The pumping is done as required by hand at the quarter deck bilge pump. 
Sounded in 33 fathoms. Muddy bottom. A rapid drift to E. x N. being indicated by the lead line. Lowered 
and hauled the dredge.
Weather gloomy and disagreeable. Brisk S.W. winds with slowly rising barometer and nearly uniform 
temperature. Squally and snowy in the afternoon.

2 fathoms = 31° - Specific gravity = 1.0254 at 41.5°
